Oh Sh*t: It's the Race to Graduation is a board game where you play as a 1950s student facing the many highs and lows that college life has to offer, while working towards your eventual graduation. With the inclusion of relatable downfalls and moments of relief, this game emphasizes on the importance of having emotional stability as you progress through college. While also encouraging the player to self-reflect and relate to their character, as they try to graduate and win the game their first time around the board.

Production Reflection

 Successes

  • This was my first major game development; and I am proud that completed an entire board game by myself, from start to finish

  • Created a game, whose topic and gameplay can easily appeal to anyone from gamers to non- gamers

  • My mechanics promoted self reflection and recognition among the players, that emotional and mental health is important to look after

 Setbacks

  • Had to go though a couple iterations of changing my game's font on the cards and documents to ensure legibility

  • I didn't have enough cards for a full 6 person group to cycle through the game, without reusing previous cards

  • Wasn't able to host as many playtest session as I wanted during production

 Personal Takeaways

  • Time management is extremely important, even in a single person production

  • It’s perfectly fine (and important) to reach outside of the normal themes, topics, stories, and gameplays that other established games have, in order to offer a new perspective in the gaming community

  • It's important to really believe in the product you are creating. It will help when marketing and pitching your product; and help motivate you while working on the project
