Production Reflection

 Successes

  • Players/Viewers of this virtual gallery have stated that this project provided a thought provoking adventure, that allowed users to interact with the characters that I included. Which lead to very emotional reactions from viewers after completing the exhibition

  • I was initially worried about receiving enough volunteers and stories for this project, due to its high level of vulnerability for the subjects. However, with proper planning and communication with possible subjects, I was able to receive many personal stories to include in the gallery

  Setbacks

  • Initially this project was going to be a choose your own adventure game, but I decided it switch the genre to an interactive gallery. This change in direction shifted the amount of visuals I would need to produce for the project, and in turn encouraged major adjustments to my current production plan and schedule

  • I was initially going to use the Processing Software Engine to develop my game, but decided that Twine would provide a better experience overall. With this switch I had to become more familiar with the bounds and abilities available in Twine, to best produce my project

 Takeaways

  • I was very proud of the feedback I received for this project from my classmates, showing that the intended aesthetics and dynamics that I wanted to provoke from the player/viewer were successful

  • I enjoyed working with the subjects included in the gallery, and being able to highlight the lives and experiences of minorities in an interactive media

  • I look forward to expanding upon and/or further developing the intended themes of this project in the future. It's important to provide a space in media, where we can include more minority representation
